In the vast, interconnected world of Pharloom, the “Fourth Chorus” is a unique and cinematic boss fight that stands out from the rest. Found in the Far Fields region, this battle against a colossal, multi-limbed creature is a true test of your mastery of Hornet’s new abilities, particularly the Drifter’s Cloak. While the sheer size of the boss may seem daunting, the fight is more of a puzzle than a pure test of skill. By understanding its few, simple attack patterns and exploiting its major weakness, you can defeat this magnificent beast and continue your journey into the depths of the kingdom. This guide will provide a clear strategy to win the fight, including the key to its quick and stylish defeat.

Before you even step into the arena, you must first acquire the Drifter’s Cloak, which is given to you by the Seamstress after you complete her “Flexible Spines” wish. This new ability allows Hornet to glide, and it is absolutely essential for surviving this fight. Without it, you will be unable to avoid the boss’s main attacks and reach its final weak point. The Fourth Chorus itself is a screen-filling boss that only takes damage to its head. Its attacks are telegraphed, but its massive size and the crumbling platforms make it a difficult encounter if you don’t know the trick to it. The key to winning is not to slowly chip away at its health, but to execute a specific, cinematic finishing move.

Fourth Chorus: The Three Phases of the Fight

The boss fight against the Fourth Chorus can be broken down into three distinct phases. While the first two are about surviving and dealing a small amount of damage, the final phase is where you’ll end the fight for good.

  • Phase 1: Ground AttacksThe Fourth Chorus starts by using two main attacks. The first is a hand swipe where its hand moves horizontally across the bottom of the screen. You can easily avoid this by jumping and gliding over it with your Drifter’s Cloak. The second attack is a hand slam, where it will smash a platform on the ground, causing it to crumble and fall into the lava below. The key to this phase is to always be moving and to get in quick upward slashes to the boss’s head whenever you have an opening. You can also use your tools for some quick, safe damage. Once you have dealt enough damage, the boss will become stunned, allowing you to get in a few extra hits.
  • Phase 2: Falling Rocks and Platform ChangesAfter you have stunned the boss once, it will begin to add a new attack to its repertoire: raining down flaming rocks from the ceiling. You will need to continue avoiding the hand swipes and slams while also keeping an eye on the falling rocks. Stay mobile and use your Drifter’s Cloak to position yourself between the falling debris. The platforms will also crumble more often in this phase, so you will need to rely on your gliding and air dashes to stay off the lava.
  • Phase 3: The Cinematic FinisherThis is the most important part of the fight and the key to a quick victory. After you have stunned the boss for a third time, the arena’s floor will become very small, and two updrafts will appear on either side of the room. You must stop focusing on hitting the boss’s head. Instead, use your Drifter’s Cloak to ride these updrafts all the way to the top of the screen. At the top of each updraft, you will see a large, glowing orange rock. Attack these rocks with your needle. After you have destroyed both of them, two giant boulders will fall from the ceiling, crushing the Fourth Chorus and defeating it instantly. This is the intended and most reliable way to end the fight and is a clear reward for mastering your new gliding ability.

The battle against the Fourth Chorus is a memorable encounter that beautifully highlights the new mechanics of Hollow Knight: Silksong. By focusing on survival in the first two phases and then executing the final, cinematic finisher in the third, you can overcome this massive foe and continue your journey through the treacherous world of Pharloom.
